At last Spring – a time of new beginnings! As I write this the warm sun streams in, I can hear new bird sounds- a sweeter song, the goodness of what is to come. Nature is holding so much possibility and momentum of growth right now. Nature’s secret of change: be flexible, stop resisting and focus your energy on building the new. Sounds like good wisdom for the collective energy right now, doesn’t it?
Spring invites us to redefine who we are and what we want to create. After cocooning ourselves in winter, we are ready. The next cycle of our lives has begun.
This is the perfect time to start a new project or finish an old one. Clean out your closets and refresh your wardrobe. Move the furniture around so it suits you better. Redefine your relationships and rebuild your nest. Change jobs, or decide to take a course that will support your growth and learning. Express and release any anger, frustration or depression that has been blocking you and get on with it. Renewal requires opening yourself to new ways of thinking and feeling.
Actively supporting your mind and body will support you in making a fresh start. When you improve detoxification of the liver and gallbladder, physically and emotionally, and let go of pent-up emotions, we create room for something wonderful to be born.

This month’s curated collection of resources are grounded in the renewal of mind, emotions and body.

- Foods and herbs geared to supporting and balancing the liver and gallbladder
- Why meaning in the bigger picture of life nourishes wellbeing
- How to take responsibility for your nervous system and relaxation response in daily life

actions you can take to heal mind and body Try just one, or dive into them all.
How you use these resources is completely up to you.

#### 1. Liver Loving Cleansing Tea

To improve the detoxification capacity of your liver, Dr. Sat Dharam Kaur ND has formulated a special liver cleansing and rejuvenating tea.

Mix together equal parts of dried: ground Milk thistle seed, dandelion root, schizandra berries, rosemary, burdock root, lemon balm, licorice root (avoid if you have high blood pressure).

Use 2 tsp of the blend per cup of water. Simmer the herbs for 20 minutes. Drink 2 cups each morning. Continue for 40 days. Shop online for herbs at: [https://www.herbies-herbs.com/](https://www.herbies-herbs.com/)

#### 2. Book

Meaning is a power you carry inside of you that helps you resist and recover from burnout. You’re “why” is as important to your wellbeing as eating vegetables, exercising and sleep. Meaning in short is the nourishing experience of feeling like you are connected to something larger than yourself. It helps you thrive when things are going well and it helps you cope when life throws those curve balls. Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl is an inspirational read to find significance in the very act of living.

#### 3. Podcast

[The Good Mood Podcast hosted by Dr. Talia Marcheggiani, ND](https://open.spotify.com/show/6BstA4hMVmHH2KwqQyjaWz) is a series focusing on learning everything there is to know about optimizing mental and emotional health. In this podcast she and her guests try to answer the question: What does it take to live a life of truth, beauty, freedom, vitality, purpose and joy? In a mix of solo episodes and interviews, she talks about all the things that fascinate me as well: nutrition, nature, the latest science, psychology and psychotherapy, mindfulness and meditation, supplementation, and more.

#### 4. Insert relaxation breaks into your daily schedule

Did you know you have a physiological need to relax every 2 ⁄ hours for 11-20 minutes? By doing this, you offset the pile up effects of stress, reduce muscle tension and support your hormones. Your mood becomes more elevated and stable. Look at your daily schedule. Where can you insert 2-5 short relaxation breaks. Choose specific activities into your schedule at particular times, and continue for the next month until you’ve developed the habit. You’ll feel like a new person!

Here are some ideas: deep mindful breathing, take a walk, enjoy a cup of herbal tea, listen to mantra/meditation/music, yoga nidra for 15 minutes, sit in nature, pet your cat/dog, give yourself a foot massage, write in your journal, or my favourite sit and practice “non-doing”.

#### 5. Eat Lean, Eat Green

In keeping with ancient Eastern practices of TCM and Ayurveda, the focus of Spring is to bring balance and rejuvenation to the Liver and Gallbladder organs. The best foods to eat at this time of year are bitter, light and alkaline. So think fresh young greens and sprouts offered by the new growing season. Spinach, kale, microgreens, sprouts, wild leeks (ramps). [Here is a an article to take you deeper.](https://kripalu.org/resources/how-eat-spring-according-ayurveda)
